Palindromes, Mirrors, and Reflections
This new album continues exploring Mode:Citizen’s themes of duality and paradoxes, this time through mirrors and reflections. Using patterns and repetition to both reveal and obscure meaning. Beneath the surface are hidden messages, meaning, and resistance.
DAMAGR is a Memphis-based electronic music and generative video artist.
He blends ambient, down-tempo, IDM, dub, and techno electronic music influences into songs designed to get you lost.
Before DAMAGR, David Sparks was often found in the Memphis hardcore, metal, and indie rock scene. His experience in those different genres and friendships in Memphis's electronic music scene continue to influence his process in unexpected ways as he explores new territory.
Debut Album
Model:Citizen
DAMAGR’s debut album, MODEL:CITIZEN, was released by Future Everything and features 12 down-tempo, ambient-techno tracks, chemically engineered to get you in a flow state.
Put this album on when you’re working and you might knock out your to-do list before the 45+ minutes worth of music is up. That or you won’t even notice how many times it repeats.
About Model:Citizen
Pandemic + Lockdowns = Focus. I refocused all my energy on music to fight the absence of seeing loved ones and boredom.
I paused all my other hobbies and spent a year or more experimenting to find "my sound." I wrote over 75 ideas on the Model:Cycles, and refined the list down to a collection of 12 tracks.
It started as a fun project to see how far I could stretch the Model:Cycles, but it became a tool that helped me process what was going on in the world and reflect on myself.
Paradoxes
I’ve always been interested in paradoxes, duality, and dichotomies. The age of covid seemed overflowing with cognitive dissonance. That became the central theme of Model:Citizen.

When I became a full-time remote worker, I spent a lot more time enjoying my studio monitors and started looking for specific types of electronic music. Stuff that would help me get and stay in the zone.
Model:Citizen is my attempt at scratching an itch. It's both ambient and calming while driving, yet also suspenseful at the same time. This is my spin on ambient-techno

My Story
ORIGINS
David has been making noise in Memphis, TN, since the late 90s. He was intimately involved with the Memphis hardcore, punk, metal, and indie rock scene through various bands and event production. Founder of OurMemphis (a DIY local-scene-focused social network) and co-founder of The Caravan (venue).
Former member of: Serapis, My Surrender, Fireworks Over London, The Honda Factor, Upright Citizen, Hong Kong Danger Duo, and other goofy side projects.
REFOCUSED
I stopped making music for about 10 years while I focused on my career in User Experience. When the pandemic started, I decided I would dedicate my free time to music again as a way of getting through it. Since then, I’ve written and released more music than at any other time in my life.
