Blank Patch Sheets makes patch documentation notebooks for hardware electronic Instruments and synthesizer-related accessories.
Blank Patch Sheets makes patch documentation notebooks for hardware synthesizers, grooveboxes, effects pedals, and other electronic instruments.
Each notebook is built around one specific device. Inside, there's a printed schematic of the instrument's front panel for capturing patch settings, preset slots, modulation routing.
There’s also space for additional notes on the page. Over 120 notebooks are sold on Amazon. Gifts & Accessories are Sold on Etsy. www.BlankPatchSheets.com redirects to DavidSparks.me/blank-patch-sheets, where the Printable Patch Sheets are Sold.
Who These Are For
Owners of synthesizers, grooveboxes and hardware electronic instruments.
Studio musicians, producers, beat makers, and DAWless musicians. They own hardware instruments and see the value in documenting device patches and presets because they've learned the hard way that good sounds disappear without a system.
The notebooks are for musicians who compose, produce, create, and perform electronic music with gear and instruments. Often, but not always, these musicians use a computer to create their music very little to none at all. Sometimes they refer to this as DAWless, or may use a hybrid approach.
The problem isn't that a synth doesn't save patches. Most do. The problem is everything around the patch: which settings you used on a specific song, what was being modulated and how much, which preset slot you started from, what you changed and why. That context disappears fast. The notebooks exist to capture it.
They're also a reliable gift for synthesizer players. Each notebook is named for the exact device someone owns, which takes the guesswork out of buying for a musician. No generic "synth journal," no wrong gear. You find the right notebook by matching the device name.
Here’s what happens without patch sheet notebooks:
Lost patches: "I had this amazing pad sound on my Prophet, and I don’t remember how I made it. I could figure it out again, but it takes dedicated time and thinking power."
Phone photo chaos: “Pictures work pretty good at first, but they’re not searchable, you can’t add notes or descriptions, and if you have too many, they all blur together. The only thing you have is dates. That can help, but it’s still not great.”
Generic notebooks don't fit: “I’ve used blank regular Field Notes or Moleskine notebooks, but I have to write the label and the setting one by one. It takes forever, so I usually don’t write down everything, just the main parts. If I write too much, it can also get confusing with some of my synths that have more than 1 envelope. Things like that add confusion and uncertainty.”
No dedicated system: “I’ve always felt the struggle of wanting to keep track of things better, but I don’t really have a good way of doing it, and haven’t found a tool that solves the problem.”
Time scarcity: “I would keep track of my favorite patches, or patches I use on finished songs if I had a way of doing it, but I probably wouldn’t write down every single patch I ever made just because it can be a bit of a time sink. But yeah, the good ones are worth saving, and I wish I could.”
The Partner, Parent, or Friend
Someone buying something for a synth person, not as one themselves. They know their person is into "synths and music stuff" but don't understand the gear deeply. Looking for a gift that shows thoughtfulness without requiring expertise.
How the Notebooks Work
Each page has a printed schematic of the instrument's front panel, with extra space for other song details such as date, title, which song the patch was used on, which settings changed mid-performance, what to try next time, etc. The schematic shows every knob, slider, switch, and parameter in its correct position.
The format is gear-specific, not generic. A Moog DFAM notebook isn't the same as an Arturia Microfreak notebook. The schematic matches the actual instrument.
Devices Covered
Notebooks are available for a wide range of synthesizers, grooveboxes, and hardware instruments. Many of the most common instruments today, including:
Moog DFAM, Moog Mother-32, Moog Grandmother, Moog Matriarch, Korg Minilogue, Korg Monologue, Korg Prologue, Korg Volca FM, Korg Volca Keys, Korg Volca Bass, Korg Volca Drum, Korg Volca Sample, Korg Volca Kick, Korg Volca Modular, Korg Minilogue XD, Roland SH-01A, Roland TR-808, Roland TR-909, Roland SE-02, Arturia MicroFreak, Arturia MiniBrute 2, Arturia DrumBrute Impact, Elektron Syntakt, Elektron Digitone, Elektron Digitakt, Make Noise 0-Coast, Sequential Prophet-6, Teenage Engineering OP-1, Behringer Neutron, Behringer Model D, and 90+ others.
If a specific device isn't listed here, check the full catalog on Amazon. The notebook lineup is updated regularly.
Caveats:
Due to the 6” x 9” size of the notebooks, large, full-size, flagship models of synths don’t fit well. Blank Patch Sheets has notebooks featuring larger devices, such as the Moog Muse. These notebooks are for people who are willing to work with small schematic sizes because it’s worth the trade-off to document what they can. Anyone who thinks the small size could be a problem or deal breaker for them should try the $.99 printable download first. If the standard paper size of the printable is too small for them, the notebooks will definitely be too small. If they see the value in the printable and believe they can use the smaller size, the notebooks offer better usability and convenience.
There are some notebooks that combine multiple devices into one notebook, on each page. Specifically, the Moog Studio line and the Behringer versions. It’s common for a Moog DFAM owner to also have the Moog Mother-32. These “bundle” notebooks have the same size constraint considerations as the larger device notebooks.
Fully modular synths and Eurorack modules will “never” be part of the BPS universe because there is way too much variation in implementation and owner configuration. There’s no way to standardize this instrument set to create a notebook usable by more than 1 person. Semi-modular synths are already part of the product lineup.
Other details about the notebooks
Internal pages feature medium-grey prints on plain white paper. This makes the schematic a little harder to see, but it was an intentional design decision to ensure the owner's patch markings stand out easily and quickly, even if they use a pencil or pen. It’s assumed that the notebooks are never too far from the actual device, so an IRL reference of the device is relatively easy when schematic legibility is low.
The covers feature a satisfying, very smooth, full-color, matte finish.
Some notebooks feature bonus hardware reference pages. This is only an option when David can read the manual and easily understand the content without physical access to the devices. Check individual product descriptions for more details.
All notebooks feature 2 blank pages for personal hardware reference notes. Things like how to change the MIDI channel, and important shift functions you don’t use often enough to memorize, but are very important. Favorite internal FX settings.
About David Sparks
David Sparks is a multi-disciplinary artist, maker, designer, and musician based in Memphis, Tennessee.
He designed his first patch sheet to solve a problem he had when he was working on 3 songs that all used his Roland JU-06a at the same time. Switching back and forth got really confusing and difficult. The notebooks are built for the way hardware musicians actually work. Not how someone imagined they might.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Each one is built around a specific instrument. The interior schematic matches the front panel of that device exactly. A Korg Minilogue notebook has a Minilogue schematic. A Behringer Pro 1 notebook has a Pro 1 schematic. They're not interchangeable.
-
Yes. The notebooks aren't just for synths that can't save patches. They're great for documenting the context around patches regardless of whether the synth saves them. Which sound was used on which song, what was being modulated, what changed from the saved preset. That context doesn't get captured by patch memory. They can also be used to bring things to the surface that aren’t easily visible. Like certain sub menu or shift function settings.
-
Yes. The notebooks are sold on Amazon and ship internationally. About 58% of sales are to buyers outside the United States.
-
All notebooks are 6 inches by 9 inches in size. They’re 75 pages total, which makes them about .25 inches thick, probably a little shy of that.

There isn’t much difference. The same device schematic is found in the $.99 printable that’s in the notebook. The primary difference is the size of the schematic and the surrounding note sections that have to be adjusted for the format. The printables are great as a try-before-you-buy option. Some people genuinely need to document just a few patches and don’t need 75 pages. Documentation is very infrequent. The notebooks are for people that want improved usability, convenience, and who need frequent documentation support.

No. This won’t ever be possible.
-
Sadly, no. This is my biggest product feature request I have for Amazon.

These notebooks are blank templates that the owner fills in with a pencil, pen, or marker, to preserve the patches that they create on the instruments they own. They do not contain example patches that a synth owner can recreate at home.
